The latest version of ITIL, a collection of best practices for the management of IT service processes has just been released, the first update of ITIL since 2000.

There are five new publications that make up ITIL version 3 covering:

These publications update much of version 2 and extend the scope of ITIL further in the domain of service management.

The new version is expected to include improved support for newer technologies such as access management, service request management and mobile systems.

New exams, courses and accreditations will be launched in June. It has been reported that today's certifications are still valid, but the certification scheme will be changing, although nothing has yet been decided in terms of qualification structure and content.

Each of the 5 manuals costs £85 or £299 for the set. As well as the manuals and the qualifications, OGC intends to work with partners to provide a unified package of web-based support offerings, including process models and ITIL definitions.
